Summary
To perform functions under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist in all aspects of pharmacy. To deliver pharmaceutical care to the patients at Loretto Hospital.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
ASSISTING IN DRUG DISTRIBUTION: Works under the direct supervision of the pharmacist in filling the medication orders and delivering the medications to the nursing stations in a timely manner. Assist with I.V. preparation and delivery, utilizing proper aseptic techniques. This aspect will also include the knowledge and or ability to order from the various vendors used in the pharmacy, warehouse aspects, unit dose packaging, preparation of parenterals, filling errors, filing away of orders, after hour's pharmacy, floor stock, the hoods, crash cart exchange tray, answering the phones and crediting and returning medications.
ASSISTING IN PRODUCT SELECTION: Coordinate and purchase pharmaceuticals, handling credits returns, and prepare invoices. Checks all stock on a regular basis to identify and reorder outdated stock including supplies. Ensure that the stock is maintained in accordance with the manufacturer requirements. Ensures that the pharmacy is stocked with essential drugs and pharmaceuticals and performs related purchasing and receiving duties. Select vendors and directly inspect pharmaceutical items received. Assist in preparing required reports. Takes periodic inventory and reorder items as required. Prepares a daily stock out sheet and informs that staff of shortages, backorders, and recalls when necessary.
DATA ENTRY: Enters orders under the direct supervision of the registered pharmacist with accuracy, with an acceptable rate of data entry, ability to calculate needed equations pertaining to medication, production of the daily patient monograph to the floors.19. Performs other related duties as assigned.

- Ensures that the staff are trained and evaluated on their knowledge of and adherence to compliance policies and procedures specific to their jobs.

EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE
High School diploma or GED; Technician Certification is required if there is no experience. Must have 1-2 years of hospital experience and or training. Certification as a Pharmacy Tech (Cpht) required.
Must have full working knowledge of the Meditech System. Must have basic knowledge of hospital policies and procedures. Must have good typing skills.
Must be a multi-tasked individual with adaptability. Must have good people skills and can think logically. Must be self driven and motivated.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand and walk as well as occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Using proper body mechanics, the employee may be expected to lift, pull, push or move patients and/or equipment. Fine motor skills are required when using hands and fingers to handle, feel or reach. Normal or corrected vision, hearing and ability to speak are necessary. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, sharp eye focus and ability to distinguish colors. There will be periods of stressful intense concentration with more than average pressure used in a variety of problem solving situations.
